A Shabbat service and Chanukah Party at Cascade Heights

At Cascade Heights, a longstanding partner of the Jewish Pavilion Senior Services, the warmth of community and tradition radiated through the halls, as residents and volunteers came together for a joyful Shabbat service and Chanukah party. For many years, Cascade Heights has been a proud Platinum Sponsor of the Jewish Pavilion, and their collaboration has turned these celebrations into much-anticipated events on the holiday calendar.

This year, Cascade Heights transformed their activities room into a festive haven. The decorations, including blue and silver accents, created a warm and inviting atmosphere. The aroma of freshly fried potato latkes filled the air, served alongside applesauce and sour cream. Residents eagerly dug in while sharing stories of their own Hanukkah memories.

The Jewish Pavilion added its own special touch to the celebration, providing thoughtfully prepared gift bags for all residents. These gifts symbolized the care and thoughtfulness of the Jewish Pavilion staff, who always go above and beyond to make these events meaningful.

Leading both the Shabbat service and Chanukah festivities was Susan Bernstein, senior program director at the Jewish Pavilion. Her heartfelt storytelling captivated the room as she shared the tale of Chanukah, weaving its significance with personal anecdotes and reflections that resonated with everyone. With the help of dedicated volunteers, the celebration became a beautiful blend of tradition, prayer, and song.

Debbie Meitin and Mark David took the lead in song and prayer. The sound of singing lifted spirits and united people from all backgrounds. Alongside them were Nancy Price and Myrna Ossin, who assisted with the event. Two special guests from the Jewish Pavilion staff, Nancy Ludin and Alex Lehrer, were also on hand, helping with everything from guiding residents to joining in the festivities.

What made this Chanukah celebration especially unique was the inclusion of individuals from various faith backgrounds. Many non-Jews participated in the festivities, embracing the spirit of togetherness. Among the participants was a Catholic priest, who joyfully joined in the prayers and songs, showing the true spirit of inclusivity that the event represented.

The partnership between Cascade Heights and the Jewish Pavilion had once again created a special, unforgettable evening where residents, staff, and volunteers came together to celebrate not just Chanukah, but the bonds that connect all people, regardless of their backgrounds.
