Joan (Grant) Belice Rosenman, 91, passed away Feb. 3, 2025. She was born on April 28, 1933, in New York City. She was raised by her mother, Gertrude (Hirsch) Weisenfeld, and her stepfather, Jacob, in Queens, N.Y. Joan earned her RN at the Jewish Hospital of Brooklyn in 1954. She felt a calling for the elderly and worked in geriatrics for the majority of her career.
Joan fell in love with and married Michael Belice in 1958. They were married for 42 years until Mike passed away in 2000. Joan and Mike had four daughters - Amy Belice (Rick Whiteaker), Susan McGhee (John), Mimi Laneman (Scott), and Leslie Belice. Early in their marriage, they lived in a Philadelphia duplex next to their dear friends Lois and Richard Dennis and their children Scott, Judith, and Eric-their created family whom they remained close to their whole lives.
Joan and Mike moved to St. Louis and raised their family there. Joan was a nurse manager at Delmar Gardens and The Jewish Center for the Aged. She was a knitter and crocheter, and cross-stitcher, and avid reader and enjoyed developing costumes and sets for her engineer husband's theatrical productions. Looking to escape winters, they relocated to Orlando, Florida in 1988. Joan enjoyed visiting her nine grandchildren: Becky, Jared, Alyssa, Samantha, Katie, Erin, Melissa, Stefan, and Samuel, and was thrilled to have 5 great-grandchildren.
Joan married Richard Rosenman in 2002 and until he passed away in 2006, they enjoyed companionship and travels to visit both of their families, Australia, and Costa Rica. She added Master Gardener to her list of talents. She reinvented herself again and moved into Kinneret Senior housing, participating in Hadassah, Chai Steppers, and a reading assistance program for elementary students. She took annual cruises and volunteered at Give The Kids The World. She had dogs and cats her entire life and was particularly fond of her 'feral' cat, Charley.
Joan was a strong woman who survived several health challenges in her late 70s and 80s. She raised four strong, independent women and was much loved by her family. Her daughter Leslie took wonderful, tireless care of her in her later years. We admire her strength, will always enjoy ice cream in her honor, and will feel her love as long as we live.
The family would like memorials to go to the Jewish Pavillion, Hadassah, Advent Hospice, or the organization of your choice.
Services were in the care of Woodlawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park.
