Obituary - EDWARD ROBIN TURKOW

Edward Robin Turkow, born Sept. 8, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland, passed away March 11, 2025, after losing his battle against Lewy Body Dementia complicated by Parkinson's disease. Known to his family and friends as Eddie or Edd, he was a lover of languages. Eddie was a foreign language professor and department chairman of foreign languages for 32 years at Pikesville high school in Pikesville, Maryland.

Eddie lived in Madrid, Spain during his junior year while attending the Johns Hopkins University. While there, he mastered the Spanish language and fell in love with Spanish culture. In addition to Spanish, Eddie fluently spoke French, Italian and German. Eddie traveled to Europe multiple times over the next several years, staying for extended periods in France and Italy, in addition to returning to Spain.

Eddie met his lifelong partner, Samuel M. Reiner, in Baltimore in 1985 and their lives together were a constant celebration of love and joy for over 39 years, having been able to finally get legally married in 2014.

Eddie loved cooking, collecting and creating art, going antiquing, and speaking languages, but mostly talking to people in their native language. Eddie would strike up a conversation in Spanish, French or Italian with people he met in restaurants, shops, on cruise ships, even elevators. He described himself as a people person; he loved people and people definitely loved him. Eddie would like to be remembered as someone who loved teaching.

Eddie is survived by his husband, Samuel, and his cherished cousin, Lynn Sherman of Baltimore, Maryland. Eddie is predeceased by his elder brother David, and his parents Mildred (Berenson) and Ted Turkow.

Service entrusted to Beth Shalom Memorial Chapel, 933 Lee Road, Suite 101, Orlando, Florida 407-599-1180.
